Intuit Inc. has formed a partnership with the smartphone accessory maker Mophie Inc. to offer mobile payment processing capabilities to iPhone-toting small-business owners.
The Mountain View, Calif., financial software developer announced last week that its GoPayment credit card processing app has been integrated with Mophie's marketplace iPhone credit card reader.
The package, called Complete Credit Card Solution, is available for sale in Apple Inc.'s retail stores. The device — which resembles an iPhone case — costs $179.95, according to Mophie's website. The GoPayment app imposes a monthly subscription fee of $12.95.
"This means that a business owner only needs to buy one package to get set up with everything they need to start taking mobile payments," Chris Hylen, the general manager of Intuit's payment solutions division, said in a press release.
Intuit reported revenue of $537 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, ended July 31, up 18% from the year earlier, and a net loss of $48 million, 32% narrower than the year before.
Mophie, a Los Angeles vendor, was the first to develop a portable battery case certified by Apple, according to the company's website.
