The Fort Worth merchant acquirer First American Payment Systems LP has acquired Govolution Inc., an Arlington, Va., provider of software that lets federal, state, and local government agencies accept electronic payments.
First American announced the deal Tuesday, but did not say how much it paid.
Govolution's software can handle credit and debit card payments and automated clearing house debits.
Industry watchers say that many consumers want to pay their taxes, fees, and fines electronically.
Metavante Corp. is acquiring one of Govolution's rivals, Link2Gov Corp.
