In Brief: Mich.'s North Country Now mBank (corrected)

Mackinac Financial Corp. of Manistique, Mich., said Monday that its North Country Bank and Trust has been renamed mBank.

The change is part of an effort by the bank's new owners to expand its reach beyond Michigan's Upper Peninsula into the Detroit suburbs.

In an interview with American Banker last month, Mackinac's chairman and chief executive officer, Paul Tobias, said the $339 million-asset company plans to open branches in Oakland County, the wealthiest in the state.

Mr. Tobias led a group of investors that injected $30 million into North Country in December.
