In Brief: Discover Appoints a Bank President

Discover Financial Services LLC, the Riverwoods, Ill., card unit of Morgan Stanley, said Monday that it has hired Christina Favilla to succeed Kathy Roberts as the president of Discover Bank.

Ms. Favilla was the first vice president of banking, cash management, and product development at TD Waterhouse Group, where she developed strategies and products that bridged the gap between the company's banking and brokerage units.

Before that she had been a vice president and the national cross-sales director of Citigroup Inc.'s consumer asset division, where she had been in charge of building the unit's home equity business. She had also worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. as a business analyst.

Discover's board appointed Ms. Favilla as its bank's president March 24. Ms. Roberts, who has retired, had held the job for 34 years.

Ms. Favilla will be in charge of marketing and new product initiatives. She will report to Carlos Minetti, Discover's executive vice president for cardholder services.

Her "wealth of experience and impressive track record in banking and marketing will make her an invaluable leader of our ongoing efforts to expand Discover Bank's product and service offerings," Mr. Minetti said in a press release.
