Hudson Valley Names New Chairman, CEO

Hudson Valley Holding (HVB) in Yonkers, N.Y., has named a new leadership team following the resignation of founder and Chairman William E. Griffin.

The $2.8 billion-asset company said Thursday that its president and chief executive, James J. Landy, has been appointed executive chairman and that its chief financial officer and treasurer, Stephen R. Brown, would take over for Landy.

Landy has more than 35 years of experience in commercial banking. He joined Hudson Valley in 1977 and has served as president and CEO since January 2001. Brown, who joined Hudson Valley in 1993, has been CFO since January 2001.

Griffin, an attorney and president at the law firm of Griffin, Coogan, Blose and Sulzer, helped found Hudson Valley Bank in 1972. He became chairman of the holding company and the bank in 1990.

As chairman, Griffin helped grow the company from $313 million in assets with nine branches to more than $2.8 billion in assets with 36 branches. His resignation as chairman is effective immediately, though he will remain on the company's board.
