Two months after stepping down as Minnesota's top banking regulator, Kevin Murphy has found a new job.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported on its Web site Wednesday that Murphy has joined the Minnesota Bankers Association as the head of its bank visit program. In his new role, Murphy will ensure that trade group officials stay in close contact with member banks to "ensure that the association remains focused on all appropriate banking issues," according to a trade group news release.
Murphy had been the deputy commissioner for financial institutions at the Minnesota Department of Commerce for 13 years before stepping down in December. As deputy commissioner, he oversaw all state-chartered banks, as well as the licensing and examination of credit unions, payday lenders, insurance companies and other financial entities.
In a news release, Murphy said he looks forward to helping trade group "create the best possible business environment for the Minnesota banks."
