The grocery chain Food Lion LLC has agreed to accept American Express Co. cards at its 1,200 stores.
Food Lion, a unit of Delhaize Group of Brussels, announced the acceptance deal Thursday. The Salisbury, N.C., company has stores throughout the Southeast and Middle Atlantic. Its brands include Food Lion, Bottom Dollar Food, Harveys, and Reid's.
"Many customers have indicated a desire to use American Express in the past, and we are pleased that we can now help improve their shopping experience by doing so," Charles Davis, Food Lion's vice president of business strategy and analytics, said in an American Express press release.
Tom Pojero, Amex's senior vice president and general manager of merchant acquisition, said in the press release that "the acceptance of the American Express Card" at Food Lion stores "will be welcome news to our cardmembers."
