ESSA Bancorp in Stroudsburg, Pa., has a new chairman and two new independent directors.
The $1.8 billion-asset holding company named William Viechnicki as chairman and appointed Christine Davis Gordon and Joseph Durkin to its board, according to a Monday news release.
Viechnicki will replace William Douglass as chairman, following his recent retirement. Douglass has been an ESSA director since 1978.

Univest Corp. of Pennsylvania was negotiating to buy Fox Chase Bancorp when its stock plummeted in August. The decline prompted Fox Chase to seek other offers, while forcing Univest to adjust its proposal to prop up the deal value.

Viechnicki, who has been an ESSA director since 2007, is a professor of orthodontics at Temple University School of Dentistry.
Gordon and Durkin were appointed to replace two longstanding directors, John Burrus and John Schoonover, who both retired.
A former assistant district attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, Gordon is deputy chief compliance officer with Olympus Corp. of the Americas. Durkin is executive vice president of Reilly Assoc., a Pittston, Pa.-based engineering, environmental and surveying firm.
Following their appointments, the board of ESSA Bancorp, the parent company of ESSA Bank & Trust, will have 11 members.
