The nation's fourth-largest bank by assets convened a meeting in the Bay Area Tuesday with experts on the digital currency and payment system, and other systems like it, to obtain a better understanding.

Digital currency startup Circle Internet Financial has expanded its high-profile lineup of leaders, appointing a Goldman Sachs (GS) director to its board of directors and naming veterans from American Express (AXP) and Google (GOOG) to its advisory board.
The company's newest board member is M. Michele Burns, who chairs the audit committee at Goldman Sachs. Burns currently holds the position of chief executive at a retirement public policy center sponsored by insurance broker Marsh & McLennan. She has also served as chief financial officer at Delta Air Lines and on the boards of Walmart, Cisco and Orbitz.
Her "experience as a CFO and director of significant global consumer, financial and technology companies will be instrumental in helping Circle build a world-class financial institution," says Jeremy Allaire, Circle's founder, chairman and chief executive, in a Jan. 16 press release. "As chair of the audit committee at Goldman Sachs, Michele also brings unique perspective on what is required to build and operate a trusted, global financial services company."
Circle also named the first two members of its newly created advisory board.
Michael Barrett who has held executive roles at PayPal (EBAY) and American Express, will help Circle hone its information security strategies, according to the release.
Google's senior security engineer Mike Hearn also joined the advisory board. Hearn, a prominent developer for Bitcoin software, is the author of Bitcoin J, the Java implementation of the Bitcoin protocol. He specializes in developing strategies to make Bitcoin easier to use for payments and mobile devices and chairs the Bitcoin Foundation's Law and Policy Committee.
