Citigroup Names Don Callahan as Chief Admin Officer

NEW YORK — Hurrying to put his stamp on Citigroup Inc., Chief Executive Vikram Pandit named a long-time colleague and former Morgan Stanley executive as chief administrative officer.

Don Callahan will oversee Citigroup's administrative functions, including technology, marketing and branding, and corporate affairs, Pandit said in a memo to Citigroup employees Monday.

At Morgan Stanley, Callahan developed a reputation as Pandit's right-hand man, working alongside him when he ran the Wall Street firm's institutional securities group. After leaving Morgan Stanley last year, Callahan had a brief stint at Credit Suisse Group before joining Citigroup, where he was chief administrative officer in the institutional clients group that Pandit headed before being tapped this month as CEO.

The chief administrative post has been vacant, but previously was held by Lewis Kaden, who is now a vice chairman at Citigroup. Pandit said in Monday's memo that Kaden will remain in that role, but with a broader set of responsibilities. He will manage the bank's human-resources, legal, and mergers-and-acquisitions groups. He also will oversee Citigroup's often-troubled Japan businesses, with the CEO of Citi Japan, Doug Peterson, now reporting to Kaden.
