Citigroup has chosen a new chief operating officer of its U.S. consumer bank from within its own ranks.
Ryan Crowley was named COO of the business this month, according to a memo sent by Gonzalo Luchetti, Citi's CEO of U.S. consumer banking, on Monday. Leadership settled on Crowley after a "thorough and thoughtful search" to replace former COO Pooja Daswani, the memo said.
Crowley previously served as head of client experience for Citi's personal banking, wealth management and legacy franchises segments. Before Citi, he held roles at JPMorgan Chase and Fannie Mae.
Ron Secrist will take over Crowley's former responsibilities while continuing in his current role as head of client experience for Citi's U.S. Personal Banking arm, according to the memo.
Citigroup announced this week that it had shuffled a number of other leadership positions for 2023.
CEO Jane Fraser named Sunil Garg as CEO of Citigroup North America, a title not held by anyone at Citi for the past few years. He will maintain his current role as Citibank CEO while overseeing the U.S. and Canada and reporting to Fraser.
"North America is a significant business opportunity for the firm, with clear opportunities to improve our competitiveness and grow in many areas," Fraser said in a memo to employees this week.
Garg will be responsible for managing the bank's regulatory and government affairs in North America. Citi has been subject to a series of fines in recent years for insufficient data management and security practices.
Fraser said Jim O'Donnell will serve as vice chairman and head of senior client engagement. He had led the bank's wealth management arm since 2021. O'Donnell will continue to steer the business line while Citi searches for his successor, Fraser said. The Wall Street Journal
