Chief Financial Officer
After a stint at Deloitte in audit management, Ashley Comstock said that she “fell in love with banking” when she joined Vectra Bank in 2012. During her 10-year career at Vectra—a Denver-based division of Zions Bancorp.—she has been promoted three times, and assumed the position of its chief financial officer at just 33 years old.
Comstock says she was initially nervous about taking on the role, but her mentor, CEO Bruce Alexander, assured her that she was up to the challenge. “He was instrumental to my development from the very beginning,” she said. Alexander took time to participate in Comstock’s public speaking and media relations training, and Comstock said she’s “very grateful and appreciative” of his support and guidance. “He went above and beyond to help me find my voice and my style,” she said.
In her role as CFO, Comstock is responsible for the bank’s financial projections and strategic planning, as well as managing employee incentives and compensation. On a daily basis, Comstock measures the overall performance of the bank and manages reporting, risk controls and assessment. She also manages the bank’s 10-person finance team.
“I think part of what makes my job unique is the local affiliate model. It allows me to work closely with our bankers and work on things like pricing decisions," Comstock said. “It’s one of the most exciting parts of my job.”
Another exciting—and unexpected—aspect of her position has been leading the facilities team in the construction of a new headquarters in Denver. While COVID brought its own set of challenges and interruptions, Comstock said the project “has been a lot of fun.” The nine-story, $67 million mixed-use building will open in December.
