Aon Replaces N.Y. Offices It Lost 9/11

CHICAGO - The insurance brokerage and consulting company Aon Corp. has announced its agreement to lease permanent office space in New York to replace that lost in last September's terrorist attacks.

Aon lost 175 employees when its offices on the 92d and 98th through 105th floors of the World Trade Center's south tower were destroyed in the attacks of Sept. 11.

The company said on Wednesday that it had agreed on Aug. 28 with Resnick Seaport LLC of New York to lease about 165,000 square feet of space at 199 Water St. in downtown Manhattan.

On July 24, Aon also signed a lease for 270,000 square feet at 55 E. 52d St. About 800 Aon employees are to work at 55 E. 52d and about 600 at 199 Water.

"We're pleased to be in a position to fulfill the promise we made to New York last year and renew our commitment to Manhattan," said Aon chairman and chief executive officer Patrick Ryan in a statement.

Since mid-September 2001, about half of Aon's displaced New York workers have been working at 685 Third Ave. in midtown and the Regus Business Center at 245 Park Ave. in midtown Manhattan. Others had gone to offices throughout the tri-state New York area.

Aon said it plans to move employees into the new office space in phases beginning early this month.
