Amalgamated Bank in New York has recruited a former American Express executive to develop its online banking platform and has created a new position to oversee corporate philanthropy.
The $3.8 billion-asset bank announced Monday that it has named Martin Murrell as its executive vice president of consumer banking and appointed Anna Fink as vice president of philanthropy.
Murrell will oversee the development and launch of the bank’s new national online banking platform.

The Bancorp in Wilmington, Del., named Sepideh Behram to the role of chief compliance officer. Her hiring comes as the $4.8 billion-asset company works to shore up its risk and compliance management.

As vice president of enterprise strategic initiatives at American Express, Murrell launched and led the personal savings direct deposit business. Before joining Amex, he was a vice president at Capital One Financial, where he launched its first online direct savings product in 2003.
Fink will be responsible for expanding and serving a new client base and work to fulfill the bank’s goal to strengthen its partnerships with charitable nonprofits and foundations.
Before joining Amalgamated, Fink led the Women’s Equality Program at the Wyss Foundation, was a senior adviser for philanthropy and innovation at the AFL-CIO, and worked at the New World Foundation, where she oversaw grant-making initiatives as a senior program officer.
