When Mastercard sought to build a fintech presence in Latin America more than five years ago, seasoned payments executive Kiki Del Valle was first in line to lead the charge.

She worked with fintechs in the region to help drive card issuance to more than 300 million consumers and helped fund roughly 50 entities through Mastercard's Start Path program, which provides support to startups worldwide. The card network now holds roughly 80% of the market share in Latin America.

But with nearly two decades of experience in the payments industry under her belt, Del Valle is showing no signs of slowing down.

Since joining Mastercard in 2008 as vice president of U.S. market development, Del Valle has been at the forefront of noteworthy payments and mobile wallet campaigns that range from the global launches of Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay to the debut of WhatsApp Pay. The company inked more than 200 deals across the fintech sector over the last few years under her guidance. These partnerships have involved lending, cross-border payments and financial inclusion.

"The fintech industry continues to face transformative change across the globe driven by rapid advancements in technology, a secular shift to digital form factors, emphasis on customer experience with greater personalization, data availability and regulatory intervention," Del Valle said.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Del Valle started out as a commercial analyst in General Electric's financial management program from 2003 to 2006 and was a finance manager in Home Depot's new product development and bank card divisions from 2006 until 2008.

Her leadership skills extend beyond the payments and fintech space, and into promoting diversity and inclusion both inside and outside her company. Del Valle worked with the U.S. Agency for International Development in January 2021 to develop and lead Mastercard's Start Path Empodera, which is dedicated to assisting 200 early-stage female entrepreneurs in Colombia and Peru. In addition, she is a member on the boards of nonprofits such as Women in Payments in LATAM, Damas Foundation of Puerto Rico and WaterAid Americas.
