How Trump's immigration stance is affecting home sales decisions

President Trump's immigration policies are prompting more than half of Arabs, Asians and Latinos to reconsider their plans to buy or sell a home, according to a Redfin survey.

Among all respondents to a Redfin survey, 41% said those policies played a role in reshaping their decision to buy or sell a home.

But that jumped to 52% for Arab, Asian and Latino respondents, including 9% that indefinitely canceled plans to buy and 10% who were less likely to sell.

There were 20% of this group — and 13% of all respondents — who said they were more likely to sell because of the uncertainty of the president's policies and their possible effect on their job and/or ability to stay in the U.S.

Surprisingly, 13% of the Arab/Asian/Latino group (compared with 14% of all respondents) said the policies made them more likely to buy a home because it would improve job prospects and the economy in their area.

The survey was conducted between May 5 and May 24 among a pool of 3,350 people from the general population who had bought or sold a home in the past year, tried to buy or sell a home in the past year or plan to do so this year. It concentrated on the 11 cities where Redfin has its largest market share.
