Bank of America Hiring Spree Continues

Bank of America (BAC) announced Wednesday that it has hired more than 85 small-business bankers on the West Coast as part of its previously announced plan to add roughly 1,000 bankers nationwide by the middle of this year.

More than 70 of the new hires are in northern California, including 31 in the San Francisco Bay Area and 15 in the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay region. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small companies account for 98% of all businesses in the San Francisco region and the number of new businesses in the Silicon Valley area has increased by nearly 50% over the last several years.

"Northern California remains a hotbed for entrepreneurship and is cultivating some of the most inspired leaders in the small-business segment," Emily Shanks, B of A's head of small-business banking in the region, said in a news release. "As small businesses in the region continue to help drive our economy forward, our small business bankers will be there to provide them with the solutions they need to better manage their finances and run more efficiently."

B of A also said Wednesday that it has hired 15 bankers in Oregon, including eight in the Portland area.

In April, B of A announced that it had hired more than 90 small-business bankers in Georgia and the Carolinas.
