The commercial finance giant CIT Group Inc. has promoted Walter Owens to president of CIT Corporate Finance, a newly created position.
The New York company announced the appointment Friday. Mr. Owens was CIT's executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. He oversaw a nearly 30% expansion of CIT's sales force and helped its organic originations increase by more than 50% in 2006 by installing chief sales officers in each business unit.
Mr. Owens will report to Rick Wolfert, the vice chairman of commercial finance.
CIT Group said it is counting on the CIT Corporate Finance to lead its sales efforts.
