Cash for Kindergarten: Credit Unions in the Community

Michigan Community
Michigan Community CU, Jackson, Mich., awarded its quarterly Forward Thinking Grant of $1,475.79 to a kindergarten classroom in Waldron Area Schools to help fund new furniture.
FORUM
FORUM CU, Indianapolis, placed third among large companies on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's "Best Places to Work" list for 2016, the CU's fifth consecutive year on the list.
Dow Chemical
Dow Chemical Employees' CU, Midland, Mich., donated more than 200 staff hours so team members could grab tools and join with more than 17,000 women from across the country to support National Women Build Week with Habitat for Humanity.
Firefly
Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., celebrated Credit Union Youth Month by hosting a youth financial education seminar, offering youth account opening bonuses and a prize giveaway. The CU said 197 new youth memberships were opened with more than $362,500 made in deposits.
MAX
In Montgomery, Ala., MAX CU's MAX4Kids Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $27,500 to 11 high school seniors from four counties.
First Community
First Community CU, Chesterfield, Mo., supported its hometown hockey heroes, the St. Louis Blues, by mounting a full-color, 50' x 20' banner on its corporate headquarters. The banner featured Louie Loan Star, the First Community mascot, on skates as a hockey player.
Lafayette
Lafayette FCU, which recently merged with CSC Employees FCU, purchased a three-story building in the I-270 Corridor section of Rockville, Md., and plans to move its headquarters from the current Kensington, Md., location by the end of 2016.
Veridian
Employees of Veridian CU, Waterloo, Iowa, made weekly, voluntary contributions to a casual day fund, allowing them to dress down on Fridays and simultaneously support their communities by donating $48,308.59 to 35 charitable organizations in Iowa and eastern Nebraska.
Hanscom
Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., awarded $10,500 in scholarships to seven high school students about to begin college. Five credit union members and two students from local Air Force Junior ROTC units were also recognized at the credit union's 62nd annual meeting.
JetStream
JetStream FCU held a grand opening of its new Miami Lakes, Fla., branch. The new branch, located in the Royal Oaks Plaza, was designed by Level5 to have a retail look and feel with a highly branded, member-friendly environment.
