ALBUQUERQU — New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union unveiled its new name — Nusenda Credit Union — which it said represents the organization's "diverse membership and evolved banking experience."

The $1.5 billion CU is New Mexico's largest credit union with 150,000 members. It said the new name was selected after "extensive research and feedback" from both members and prospective members, who were asked to provide feedback about the CU and what was important to them in services provided by their financial institution.

With this guidance, the credit union's executive team said it developed the new name and brand to "better fit" the needs of member-owners and prospective members.

"We are changing our name to demonstrate our strong commitment to our members and to our community," Terry Laudick, CEO of Nusenda Credit Union, said in a statement. "Nusenda is the banking of the future, today. It demonstrates a new direction in banking, while removing concerns of eligibility that our members shared with us."

"Unlike other financial institutions, our members are our owners," Laudick continued. "For the last decade, we have talked extensively to members and prospective members to better understand their needs and wants from their credit union. Our decision to change the credit union's name was inspired by their input."
