TAMPA, Fla. - (06/22/05) -- Fifty-year after setting up shop inan Air Force Base broom closet, MacDill FCU, now one of the biggestcredit unions in the country, has a new home. The $1.6 billioncredit union will cut the ribbon next week on a five-story, 140,000square-foot office building representing the first phase ofconstruction on a 25-acre campus. The $20 million first phase ofthe project will house 240 of the credit union's employees and willreplace the old 60,000 square-foot headquarters adjacent to themain gate of MacDill Air Force Base. Two additional buildings areplanned at the site over the next 20 years as growth and spacedemands dictate. The credit union was chartered in 1955 to serveemployees of the base and now serves more than 173,000 members form1,200 select groups.
