The 2018 rebate was possible “due to Guardian Credit Union's positive financial results throughout the year, which is largely based on member relationships and their loyalty,” the institution said in a statement.

“Guardian Credit Union is member owned and as a member, you get very unique rewards,” Heath Harrell, Guardian's CEO, said. “We are grateful for the support and loyalty of our members and we are extremely proud to be able to give back. We understand there are many financial institutions to choose from and we appreciate our members choosing Guardian.”

Guardian earned about $5 million through the first nine months of 2018, up roughly 59 percent from the same period a year earlier.
