Educational Community CU Changes Name to Arbor Financial Credit Union

Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Educational Community Credit Union has rebranded as Arbor Financial Credit Union, effective Monday, August 8.

According to an announcement on the credit union's website, the rebranding follows a pair of recent studies conducted throughout the credit union's field of membership area that revealed that – among other things – the name Educational Community CU was too confusing, and that members of the community believed only teachers were eligible for membership.

That name, said the credit union, "was a bit confusing since it suggested we only served the educational community. We wanted a name that was more universal, so people and business owners would know they could bank here." The new name is aimed at reflecting the credit union's ability to help grow members' financial lives.

According to a member service representative, this was strictly a name change and did not involve any merger or any other changes in the credit union's policies or operations.

Arbor Financial CU has about $455 million in assets and almost 38,000 members.
