CEO of Michigan credit union steps down for HR role at another firm

Ann Marie Nelson has tendered her resignation as president and CEO of Adventure Credit Union in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Nelson had been the $448 million-asset organization's leader for the past three years. She is stepping down to "return to her roots," the company said in a press release.  Nelson has accepted an executive level human resources position with another financial institution.

"I have so enjoyed my time here, I am proud of what we have accomplished together; I am looking forward to what Adventure will accomplish in the years to come," Nelson said in the press release.

Nelson was previously the senior vice president of human resources at DFCU Financial Credit Union in Dearborn before joining Adventure in 2019. Having helped Adventure navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, Nelson decided it is the right time for her to step down, the company said in the press release.

Adventure named Amanda Garabedian, its chief operating officer, as interim CEO.  Garabedian has held the position of COO at Adventure since 2019 and has guided the organization through several major projects including a digital banking platform conversion.

Garabedian has more than 15 years of experience in credit union leadership and financial technologies.

"With the strength of our team, and the guidance of our board of directors, I'm confident the credit union will continue to excel," Garabedian said in the press release.

Adventure earned $1.1 million in the first six months of 2022, a 15% decrease compared to a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
