CEO of Coastal Credit Union in North Carolina to retire

Chuck Purvis, president and chief executive of Coastal Credit Union in Raleigh, North Carolina, is planning to retire in March of next year.

Purvis first joined the $4.6 billion-asset credit union in 2001 and has been its CEO since 2012. The board of directors has established an executive search committee and partnered with D. Hilton Associates to find Purvis’s successor.

“What’s driven me for 40 years is, make a difference in people’s lives and leave it better than you found it … as I look back, I believe I’m leaving Coastal in a better place,” Purvis said in a press release last week.

In addition to his leadership positions at the credit union, Purvis also held membership roles on the boards of the National Credit Union Foundation, Co-Op Financial Services and Members Development Co.

“When Chuck became CEO in 2012, we were a $2 billion credit union … now, we’re knocking on the door of $5 billion, and it’s thanks to his focus on innovation, on serving the community and his commitment to employees and members,” Joan Nelson, chair of Coastal’s board, said in the release.
