TAMPA, Fla. – Three people have been arrested here and charged with fraud after allegedly opening false accounts at Suncoast Schools FCU and obtaining $152,000 as a result.
Arrested were John Fitzgerald Hartley, 47, and Laura Jean Hall, 51, of Georgia, and Jodi Summers, 21. Authorities allege the trio opened accounts at SSFCU branches in early August using counterfeit identities of victims who live in three different states. They then allegedly applied for three loans online, obtaining $152,000 among them.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its detectives were able to trace the IP addresses used in the loan apps to a Marriott Courtyard hotel in Tampa, where the three were arrested.
