Scholarships and shred days: Credit unions in the community

New awards
Thanks to two of its scholarship programs, Lowell, Mass.-based Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union awarded over 17,000 worth of college scholarships.
Sustainable shredding
Orange County's Credit Union raised over $4,000 for CHOC Children's Hospital in the Santa Ana, Calif.-based CU's Shred and eWaste Day. Over 24,000 pounds of paper and roughly 10,000 pounds of electronics were recycled during the two-day event.
Scholarly pursuits
Los Angeles Federal Credit Union awarded $14,000 in scholarships to high school and college students for the fall of 2019. The Glendale, Calif.-based CU recognized teachers as well.
Just shred it
About 400 residents hedged themselves against fraud by shredding old financial records thanks to Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood Credit Union's annual Shred-a-Thon.
Budgeting for baby
A workshop from Baton Rouge, La.-based Pelican State Credit Union examined how to budget for babies and awarded attendees "parent survival kits."

Employees of East Lansing, Mich.-based Michigan State University Federal Credit Union raised over $42,000 during Q1 in 2019 in benefit of four charities.
