Helping homeless kids

During a two-week campaign, Quincy CU, Quincy, Mass., partnered with the MA Coalition for the Homeless to support “A Bed for Every Child,” which provides homeless children with a safe place to sleep at night. Tuck the Bear went on a road trip with QCU to help raise awareness.

Warner Robins, Ga.-based Robins Financial CU opened its 21st branch, also in Warner Robins. The new building houses a full-service branch and includes a state-of-the-art call center and mortgage department.

Sperry FCU thinks (and bowls) pink

The Maurer Foundation hosted 90 bowlers for the annual Pink Bowl event, which raised almost $12,000 for breast health education on Long Island. The ninth annual bowling fundraiser was held at Bowlmor Lanes in Melville. The event was sponsored by Sperry FCU, Garden City Park, N.Y., for the fourth year in a row.

Fitchburg, Mass.-based Workers CU opened a new branch in Athol, Mass. It is the first Workers branch to feature a “tech bar,” which allows members to use a mobile tablet in the branch to experience online banking through the credit union’s app or mobile website.

Northwest gives back

The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., was selected as one of seven honorees for the 2018 Cornerstones of Our Community-Best of Reston Awards. Northwest Federal made an annual sponsorship donation of $15,000 to Cornerstones to be used for monthly lunches for residents.

Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood CU held its 100th free “Bite of Reality” financial workshop for 118 students at San Rafael High School. This is an interactive simulation of the money management challenges facing adults.

'Clays for a Cause'

Neighbors FCU, Baton Rouge, La., and its Neighbors Capital Area Foundation held the fifth annual “Clays For A Cause” charity sporting clays tournament. It grossed $19,535, netting a $12,356 contribution to the Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Fund. In addition, Neighbors FCU pledged $14,549 to the fund via an employee payroll donation program.

Learning to love reading

Nick Webb, VP of commercial member services for Hoosier Hills CU, Bedford, Ind., read to the kindergarten classes at Parkview Primary. At the conclusion of the story, each student was presented with his/her own personalized book to keep. Scholarships awarded

In South Bend, Ind., Teachers CU and its Foundation awarded $10,000 in scholarship grants for students at five Elkhart County high schools. The grants support the mission of the TCU Foundation, whose focus includes financial literacy, high impact educational programs and scholarships within communities TCU serves.
