Offering students a 'Bite of Reality'
Wescom CU, Pasadena, Calif., continued its partnership with Bite of Reality, a fun and interactive financial education program that helps teens prepare for future financial issues they may face. Wescom held three separate events for students from UCLA, Los Osos High School and AbilityFirst (pictured).
Workplace honors
Vermont FCU, Burlington, Vt., won the 2018 Governor’s Excellence in Worksite Wellness Award for its wellness program.
Marketing recognition
TopLine FCU, Maple Grove, Minn., received a Diamond Award from the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council for its Radio Awareness Campaign titled, “I Have a Choice.” In it, TopLine promoted the benefits of belonging to a credit union.
Art appreciation
Align CU, Lowell, Mass., supported UMass Lowell art history and history students through the sponsorship of field trips to the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Scholarships awarded
Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU, Edgewood, Md., announced the winners of its annual STARSS college scholarship competition. This year, APGFCU awarded $25,000 to 25 local teens.
Celebrating young scholars
First Financial FCU, Lutherville, Md., awarded 51 deserving high school students with $3,000 college scholarships each, a gift totaling $153,000. Recipients were formally congratulated at the organization’s 65th Annual Meeting.
CAP COM expands
Albany, N.Y.-based CAP COM Federal Credit Union opened its 11th branch, this one on Western Avenue in Albany. The 3,300-square-foot branch is located close to the State Office Campus and State University of New York at Albany.
Focusing on financial health
The California and Nevada CU Leagues hosted Credit Union FINHEALTH18, which drew more than 80 leaders to “Share, Collaborate, Impact” as they work to deliver financial health and well-being to more people in their communities.
BECU grows and celebrates
BECU, Tukwila, Wash., hosted hundreds of members at its annual Member Summit event. BECU reported it grew its membership by 8 percent last year to 1,081,077 members, and ended the year with $17.8 billion in assets, an 8.5 percent increase over 2016.
Big winners
Credit union participants in the WINcentive Savings program celebrated $1,000 winners at Affinity Plus FCU, Financial One CU, Fulda Area CU and St. Cloud FCU in the drawings for the first quarter of 2018. An additional 45 lucky credit union members throughout Minnesota were rewarded with $100 each for their savings habits.
