Charles Schwab Corp. customers with Android smartphones can now deposit checks into their bank and brokerage accounts.
The San Francisco company has added a remote deposit feature to its application for mobile phones running on Google Inc.'s operating system after making the service available last month to users of its iPhone app.
"Android devices are becoming increasingly popular and we're very pleased to add the mobile deposit capability to an already full list of features on our Android app, reinforcing the convenience of our integrated Schwab Bank and Schwab brokerage capability," Diane Russell, the senior vice president of platform services at Charles Schwab, said in a press release Wednesday.
Today a handful of banks and credit unions offer mobile check deposit, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., USAA Federal Savings Bank and U.S. Bancorp, though analysts expect more to release the service as way to compete for customers.
