WASHINGTON – The Chamber of Digital Commerce has opened a new outpost in the nation's capital. But instead of looking for a staid law office, the bitcoin advocacy group formed a partnership with the local incubator 1776 to launch the DC Blockchain Center.
"We strongly believe that one of the most effective forms of advocacy is for the government to utilize and implement blockchain technology, and to experience the benefits first hand," Perianne Boring, the chamber's founder and president, said in a statement Tuesday.
The center will research how regulators and agencies at the state, federal and international level can use blockchain technology for their own purposes. It will also promote partnerships between the public and private sector.
According to the chamber, the DC Blockchain Center has already received inquiries related to public-sector use of blockchain technology. It also expects to field inquiries on cybersecurity, identity management and asset registry issues.
