CFPB Names New Temporary No. 2

WASHINGTON — While it searches for a permanent deputy director, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has named David Silberman to serve as its acting No. 2 starting next week.

Silberman will succeed Meredith Fuchs, herself a temporary deputy director, and retain his current position as the associate director for research, markets and regulations.

"David has been an integral part of the Bureau's leadership team from the very beginning, and I am pleased that he will be taking on the role of acting deputy director," the agency's director, Richard Cordray, said in a press release Thursday.

Fuchs delayed her own plans to step down as general counsel and took on the additional post after Steven Antonakes' abrupt resignation in July. In a press release announcing the shuffle, the CFPB had noted that Fuchs agreed to stay in the bureau "until a permanent replacement is selected for each position."

"[A]lthough we will miss Meredith, we remain grateful for her contributions to the Bureau and the public we serve," Cordray said in Thursday's press release.
