Digital Asset Recruits Execs from RBS, JPMorgan, B of A

Digital Asset Holdings has hired a former RBS executive to be its chief financial officer. The hire was one of several new recruits the New York blockchain startup announced Tuesday.

Carol Mathis was chief operating officer for three years at the Royal Bank of Scotland's corporate and institutional banking unit, after serving nearly 13 years as its chief financial officer and managing director.

The firm also appointed Josh Varsano as chief human resources officer. He was previously global head of human resources at Point72 Asset Management.

Kelly Mathieson, Digital Asset's new product manager, was most recently head of global collateral management and securities clearing at JPMorgan Chase. She was with JPMorgan for 26 years, and was on American Banker's Women to Watch list in 2012.

Gavin Wells, head of Europe, spent eight years at the European clearinghouse LCH.Clearnet, where he helped deliver ForexClear, the first clearing service for Foreign Exchange.

Gordon Weir, head of delivery, came from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was most recently head of development transformation across global tech and operations and headed securities operations tech Americas.

Andrew Pisano, business development director, previously developed the blockchain strategy at CME Group's digitization group.

Emnet Rios, director of finance and operations, was previously director of financial planning and analysis at RBS, where she spent 11 years.

Martin Korbmacher, a strategic adviser, is founder and managing director of the advisory and investment banking boutique Event Horizon Capital & Advisory and has held senior leadership roles at Credit Suisse and JPMorgan.

Digital Asset launched in March 2015 as a provider of blockchain-based post-trade settlement and ledger services. This year it has raised more than $50 million in funding from leading financial firms including JPMorgan, Santander InnoVentures and Citi; built its board of directors with financial industry veterans, now including Sallie Krawcheck, formerly CEO of Bank of America Wealth Management; and partnered with firms like Accenture and leading industry blockchain initiatives such as the bank consortium R3 and the Hyperledger Project.
