Security Bank operates 12 branches in central and west Texas, where football is king. On the Friday before the college football season kicks off, employees are encouraged to wear the colors of their favorite teams.
Staff members demonstrate team spirit in other ways as well. Through United Way, employees have volunteered to paint and provide other upkeep on homes in their communities. They've also helped the nonprofit allocate funds raised during its annual campaigns. The bank, founded in 1928, offers either a $100 bonus or an extra day of paid time off to employees who notch at least 100 volunteer hours, either at United Way or another charity.
But there is no volunteering required to win handsomely at the bank's yearly holiday party. Employees have a chance to win big-ticket items like televisions, iPads and computers in an annual gift drawing, and those who are left empty handed still get to take home a $50 gift card.
