Tangerine Bank Adds Voice, Fingerprint Recognition to Apps for Apple Devices

Tangerine, a direct bank based in Canada, has added biometrics to its mobile app.

The features include a voice-controlled interface that gives users the ability transfer money, pay bills or receive account information with spoken commands. The voice recognition technology, which was created by partner Nuance Communications, will be added to the bank's apps for Apple iOS devices.

The bank also added technology that lets customers with iOS 8 devices log in to their account by scanning a fingerprint, using Apple's Touch ID fingerprint recognition technology.

Tangerine plans to introduce a voice authentication feature later this year, it said in a news release Wednesday. The mobile feature would allow customers to log in by repeating a specific phrase.

Tangerine is based in Toronto, and is a subsidiary of Scotiabank.
