Rajiv Dutta, the president of eBay Inc.’s PayPal Inc. since 2006, has succeeded John Donahoe as the president of the parent company’s auction business.
Mr. Dutta also was named executive vice president of eBay on Wednesday.
The San Jose company’s board elected Mr. Donahoe to succeed Meg Whitman as its president immediately and as its chief executive officer at the end of March, when Ms. Whitman will retire.
Scott Thompson has succeeded Mr. Dutta as PayPal’s president. Mr. Thompson had been the unit’s chief technology officer and a senior vice president.
Ms. Whitman will remain on the board of eBay. Mr. Dutta and Mr. Donahoe will join the board.
