In Brief: Tommy Franks to Join B of A Board

Bank of America Corp. on Tuesday named Tommy Franks, a retired four-star U.S. Army general, to its board.

Gen. Franks, 60, will join the board in January, a spokesman said.

He is not replacing anyone and will bring the board membership to 18, the spokesman said. Kenneth D. Lewis, the Charlotte company's chairman and chief executive, is the board's only nonexecutive director.

Mr. Lewis said in a press release: "Tommy Franks' experience managing large, very complex operations and logistics will be invaluable. This, coupled with his ability to develop strategy and lead others, makes him an ideal director for a corporation of our size and complexity."

Gen. Franks, who lives in Florida, received the country's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
